The Challenge
A three-storey professional office building in Hoover's Riverchase corridor had floor-to-ceiling west-facing glazing that created intense afternoon heat gain across open-plan workspaces. Staff were relocating desks away from windows, HVAC was running at capacity from 1pm daily, and glare was making screen work impossible in the afternoon. The building manager needed a solution that preserved the view and the building's professional appearance without replacing the glass.
The Solution
Solar Busters specified Solar Gard Sterling HP 35 — a high-performance spectrally selective film that rejects 60% of solar heat while maintaining 35% visible light transmission and a near-neutral exterior appearance. Installation was phased over three early-morning sessions to avoid disrupting the 140 staff across four tenancies. All 3,200 sq ft of west-facing glazing was treated, including the lobby atrium.

"The difference was immediate. Staff who had been avoiding the west side of the building are back at their desks, and our afternoon HVAC bills have dropped noticeably. The film is virtually invisible from outside — we've had clients comment that the building looks sharper."
