The Challenge
A large estate home in Mountain Brook's Cherokee Bend neighbourhood had extensive south- and west-facing glazing across two floors. The homeowners were experiencing significant heat gain in the main living areas and master suite from early afternoon onwards, with UV damage already visible on hardwood floors and upholstered furniture near the windows. They needed a high-performance solution that would not alter the appearance of the home's glazing from the street.
The Solution
Solar Busters specified Solar Gard Quantum 50 — a nano-ceramic film with 79% heat rejection and 50% visible light transmission, delivering excellent performance with a virtually invisible appearance. The film was installed across 1,800 sq ft of south- and west-facing glazing over two days. The homeowners chose Quantum specifically for its neutral appearance and the absence of any metallic sheen, which was important for the home's traditional exterior character.

"The afternoon heat in our living room was genuinely uncomfortable — we'd stopped using it in summer. Now it's one of our favourite rooms again. The film is completely invisible from outside, which was our main concern. We wish we'd done it years ago."
